When the A5 Sportback came out, I didn't hear as much howls of hate about them. The 4 Series Gran Coupe on the other hand had message boards fired up with rage. Could it be Audi's coupaloon was better executed? With people falling over the A7 and flaming the 4GC, why is this model not making a big buzz?

So, do you prefer one over the other? Do you hate them both? If I'm given a choice, I'd pick...their two door counterparts instead. I'd get a proper 4 door if I really need one. Besides, the sedan/saloon counterparts are sharp looking as it is.

PS.

If I really wanted a sedan/saloon that looks like a coupe, I'd get this.

I think they're both good cars in any trim. BMW however, has the more of a set tradition and if they hadn't made the X6 and X4 as well as the 3 and 5 GT's, people would probably not pay much attention to a stretched 3 series with a lower roof line.

That said, I do think the 4 Gran Coupe is very attractive. Might have even bought one if it was available when I got my 4.

"All even numbered models will be coupes, except they will be sedans"

Just find it silly. Same with the 3GT, and 5GT, and X6, and a lot of other things. Like connecting the headlights to the kidney grilles. Stop that.

You're not hearing the hate for the Audi because the A5 Sportback isn't offered in the states. If the 4GC takes off, I bet Audi will want a piece of the pie and bring it over

The whole four-door coupe nomenclature thingamadoo needs to stop.....like, forever.

Either way, the A5 is MUCH better looking. The BMW has just too high a beltline (yo! we liked the 1! Y U NO DO THAT MOAR?!) and that horrible plastic vent thing behind the wheel is...ugh. No, just no. Nuke the extra badge above it from orbit, too, while you're at it.

BMW's current "overstyle everything" trend needs to quit. I didn't even mind Bangle all that much and I'm deeply visually offended by many of their latest offerings.

I think it's because people love BMW's old road car formula (engine+handling+RWD) and it's fashionable to hate on their new fattened luxury cars because of how they have deviated from what we enthusiasts loved about the Bavarian brand. Modern Audi has kind of just made AWD douchemobiles since modern Audi was a thing.

Also, Audis are generally pretty fucking boring. I seriously couldn't tell one businessman's Audi sedan from another businessman's Audi sedan. (Okay, the RS's are awesome, but still pretty eeehhhh in my book.)

The term four door hardtop was way better styling wise. No sacrifice in style and headroom too!

IMO neither is an all out sports car, so I'd take the one with Quattro.

But as others have said, BMW has tradition with the 3 coupe that they just kind of through away and audi isn't offered over here.
